Summer Songs

This song was in my head while I was making coffee this morning. Such poofy/fluffy hair back then. Still can’t believe he’s gone….

Prince?? Really??

Dammit. I can’t wrap my head around this. Three people texted me in all caps, “PRINCE” and I checked Twitter and figured it was a hoax (a sick one), but, nope, not so much. It was true. Price was gone. When your musical idols start dying….first Bowie and now Prince. Too many people from the entertainment industry have died this year. Enough already. 2016 is the year of death. Fuck this.

His music was on my teenage life soundtrack for Chrissakes. His music made people happy and get up and dance. He was a true musical genius. Those vaults of unpublished music that we’ll never hear….Sigh. To say that he will be sorely missed worldwide is an understatement. I hope the Empire State Building is lit up in all purple tonight. Rest in Peace, Prince.

Let’s all sing….

Purple Rain

Goodbye, Mr. Bowie…

I had no idea that David Bowie had cancer and I’m terribly sad to find out just now that he passed away last night. I hope that every radio station fills the airwaves with any and all Bowie. Please, he deserves that.

As a teen, I gravitated towards his music because to me, it was different, he was different. I played his greatest hits vol. 1 & 2 over and over and over again on my record player, memorizing the lyrics. And then I bought more of his records and/or tapes. My friend and I camped out over night at Repeat the Beat Record store in downtown Plymouth, MI to get tickets for his 1987 show at the Pontiac Silverdome. Our waiting paid off because my friend and I scored 7th row center seats to his Glass Spider Tour. We were beyond excited to finally see him. And, damn, that was an awesome show.
I think Mark Ruffalo put it best earlier this morning: “Rip Father of all us freaks. Sad sad day…”

Wherever you are now, Sir, I hope you are at peace.

Possibly my favorite, though it’s hard to choose just one song

Let’s all sing…
